Eiju (永寿 - "Longevity and Long Life") is a top-grade ceremonial matcha from Marukyu Koyamaen, symbolizing auspicious long life. This extraordinary matcha delivers exquisite character with sweet aroma, multilayered taste, tremendous umami, and long lingering aftertaste. Outstandingly refreshing with effortlessly smooth flavor, Eiju reveals different profiles depending on preparation: vegetal spinach-like notes as usucha, roasted peanut and almond aromas as koicha, both giving way to pure sweet creamy flavor with mild vanilla finish. Great tea masters drink Eiju for special tea parties in Japan, yet it's forgiving for serious enthusiasts—less temperature-sensitive than other Marukyu grades.

Why Eiju Ceremonial Matcha:

  • Top-Grade Special Occasion: Extraordinary matcha drunk by tea masters at special parties—positioned among Marukyu's upper ceremonial tiers for important guests and gifting.
  • Named for Longevity: Ancient name symbolizing long life and wellbeing from Ten Virtues of Tea—carries auspicious meaning perfect for celebrations.
  • Multilayered Umami Richness: Sweet scent, complex aroma while whisking, tons of umami, long aftertaste—absolutely no bitterness, thick creamy consistency even as usucha.
  • Dual Character: Vegetal spinach as usucha, roasted nuts as koicha—both transition to pure sweet creamy vanilla finish, more umami than Unkaku below it.
  • Forgiving Preparation: Less temperature-sensitive than other Marukyu matchas—fantastic for serious enthusiasts without extensive expertise, reliable across preparation methods.
  • Best Prepared Thick: Recommended slightly thicker to appreciate exquisite flavor—excels as koicha where concentration reveals pure lingering sweet creamy character.
  • Marukyu Award-Winning Heritage: From Marukyu Koyamaen since 1704—over 320 years producing matcha for Japanese Royal Family, National Tea Competition winner.

Perfect for: Special tea parties, gifting, koicha and usucha, celebrating longevity, important guests, and serious enthusiasts seeking top-grade ceremonial quality with extraordinary umami.

How to Prepare

Matcha Latte

Combine matcha's natural sweetness and crisp green bite with the creamy texture of milk.

Step 1: Sift 3g (0.11 oz) of matcha (2 heaping tea ladles or 1.5 level teaspoons.)

Step 2: Pour boiling water into a teacup to cool it to 80°C (176°F), then pour 100 ml (2 oz) into tea bowl.

Step 3: Whisk vigorously 15 seconds, making an "M" shape.

Step 4: Add 100 ml (3.4 oz) of warmed or foamed milk into mug.

Usucha (thin tea)

The standard matcha whisking method, made to be a normal, liquid consistency.

Step 1: Sift 2g (0.07 oz) of matcha (1.5 heaped tea ladles or 1 level teaspoon.)

Step 2: Pour boiling water into a teacup to cool it to 80°C (176°F), then pour 60 ml (2 oz) into tea bowl.

Step 3: Whisk vigorously 15 seconds, making an "M" shape.

Koicha (thick tea)

Matcha made into a rich, thick paste by using less water and more matcha powder per serving.

Step 1: Sift 4 g (0.14 oz) of matcha (3 heaping tea ladles or 2 level teaspoons.)

Step 2: Cool boiling water to 80°C (176°F) in teacup, then pour 30 ml (1 oz) into bowl, just covering matcha powder.

Step 3: Whisk slowly for 15 seconds moving back and forth.
